Add Delete and Unpublish buttons to the content editor, Blocks editor for the Bag Part improvements - This week in Orchard (12/12/2025)

This week's topics include adding Delete and Unpublish buttons to the content editor, fixing pluralization for pagers with 0 or 1 items, and a demo of the improvements of the upcoming Blocks editor for the Bag Part and Flow Part!

Orchard Core updates

Fix pluralization for pagers with 0 or 1 item

Antoine Griffard changed the first parameter of many @T.Plural() methods. Ex: 1 item has to be changed to {0} item because, in languages like French, if there are 0 items, it will display the localization of 1 item instead of replacing the count with 0 or 1. Some of these are inside an if condition like this:

@if (Model.Models.Count > 0)

So, the 0 case won't occur, but others, like Menus, Content items, and Audit Trails, aren't inside this kind of .Count > 0 condition.

Unfortunately, the correct translations will only be effective when the strings are updated and translated in Crowdin, then published in OrchardCore.Translations.

Add Delete and Unpublish buttons to the content editor

This is about improving the built-in editor's base functionality by adding additional action buttons. Now we have an Unpublish and Delete action button (where applicable) to the content item editor (for existing items, i.e., not when creating one), similarly to what we have in Orchard 1.

If you set up your site using the Blog recipe, you will get one predefined Blog Post content item. If you edit that blog post and scroll down to the bottom of the editor, you will see the new buttons there. And you can see the yellow Unpublish button here too because this content item is published.

Demos

Blocks editor for the Bag Part improvements

In the previous part of this demo, you could see that every content type that could be added as a block had the Block Part attached. And for that part, you can set the content type's category and its thumbnail. Now, these settings have been moved to the content type definition of the content type settings, as we have for the Stereotype.

So, if we navigate to Design -> Content Definition -> Content Types and edit any of our content types, you will see the Category and Thumbnail text boxes under the Stereotype one, where you can set the category and the thumbnail of the content type. In this example, we set the category of the Blockquote content type to Demo.

Now, if we create a new content item of a content type that has a Bag Part attached (or edit an existing one) and click the Add Item button, we will see our Blockquote content type and the Demo category appear in the list.
