Ability to delete Content Part and Content Type from the list page, Orchard Core-integrated AI modules now available on DotNest - This week in Orchard (22/08/2025)

Secure your early bird ticket to the Orchard Harvest conference! Our topics for this week are adding an ability to delete Content Part and Content Type from the list page, and adding an AdditionalProperties collection for BuildDocumentIndexContext! Oh, and have we mentioned that the Orchard Core-integrated AI modules are now available on DotNest? Without further ado, let's get started!

Orchard Core updates

Ability to delete Content Part and Content Type from the list page

Nowadays, removing a Content Part requires additional steps: you have to go to Design -> Content Definition -> Content Types/Parts and click the Edit button near the selected content, and then you can delete it. From a UX perspective, adding a Delete button on the list page makes things easier.

From now on, if you navigate to Design -> Content Definition and select whether Content Types or Content Parts, you will find a new Delete button near the Edit one that you can use to delete the desired content without the need to select the Edit button to open up the editor.

Add AdditionalProperties collection for BuildDocumentIndexContext

When building a document index, sometimes the user needs to send additional data with the context. Currently, the user will have to inherit from BuildDocumentIndexContext and add properties.

As you can see, this change is about adding an AdditionalProperties dictionary to the BuildDocumentIndexContext, which makes it easier to send objects along with the context when needed.

Orchard Core-integrated AI modules are now available on DotNest

At the beginning of this year, we mentioned the Artificial Intelligence Suite created by Mike Alhayek, which is an implementation of OpenAI that allows you to interact with any AI model. He worked a lot on that solution, and from time to time, he added many new features, which we mentioned here and here. After that, we highlighted the Model Context Protocol (MCP) Client and Model Context Protocol (Local MCP) Client features, and the Orchard Core AI Agent feature. Finally, we mentioned the AI Data Source Management feature of the Artificial Intelligence Suite. Here is the GitHub repository for this project, along with its corresponding NuGet package.

And now you can use them right from your DotNest site! The features include support for all the major AI models that you can then use to manage the content or configuration of your Orchard Core site, or to chat with the model from the Orchard admin panel. Check out our blog post in the DotNest blog to see how you can create a simple setup and how to use the models to automate tasks, like creating a content type! What will you use AI for on your DotNest sites?

Help us improve the Orchard Core project start experience

Orchard Core is a powerful tool for building apps, but the user experience is not always smooth. We aim to identify new ways to improve it, from simplifying the initial steps to helping experienced users work more efficiently. Whether through AI or other solutions, we first want to understand how you approach site setup today and where things feel repetitive, unclear, or time-consuming.

You can help us by taking a moment to complete this survey, which should only take approximately 5-10 minutes of your time. Please help us to improve the Orchard Core project start experience!
